New toy museum opens in Antalya

A toy museum with over 3,000 displays from the 1860s to present day has opened in the southern province of Antalya. Opened on April 23 which was also Children’s Day, the toy museum is seen as one of the most successful in the world.

The Antalya Toy Museum presents toys that have been collected from Turkey and around the world; some of the toys on display are hundreds of  years old.

Guests of the museum are welcomed by the cartoon character Red Kit, his dog, Rin Tin Tin and their enemy, the Dalton Brothers. They also
see toys recalling the Stone Age, the Space Age and other epochs. The museum also presents automobile and animal figures whose production began in the 1950s as well as wooden toys made by Anatolian children.

Other objects in the museum include small figurines of well-known people such as Elvis Presley and Cher, as well as the heroes of films like “Casablanca,” “Gone with the Wind” and “King Kong.”
