Finishing up with one gold, five silver, and four bronze medals, Turkey sent a record 69 athletes in total to London 2012 and even broke a world record with Nazmiye Muslu winning gold in the weightlifting by lifting 109 kilograms.

Silver and bronze medals came in shooting, table tennis, archery, power lifting and weightlifting divisions. A highlight being Judoka Nazan Akin winning silver in the women’s 70+ kilogram division on September 1st – her birthday.

With Istanbul being one of the favourite to host the Olympic Games in 2020, Turkey will be looking to build on this performance in the Paralympics and Olympics 2012 to build a platform for success in 2020.
