Social Turkey – 47 percent of all Turkish homes now have internet access

More Turkish homes than ever now have access to internet according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

According to the data, a total of 47.2 percent of households within Turkey now have access to internet at home, a rise from 42.9 percent in 2011, while a further 27.6 percent who don’t have access, only don’t because according to them, they do not need it.

In urban areas the rate of access to internet is slightly up at 55.5 percent while in rural areas the rate is down to 27.3 percent. The statistics also show that more males than females use the internet in Turkey, while most Turks like to read newspapers and magazines online.

Istanbul – Turkey’s business hub and biggest city with more than 12 million residents has a rate of 60.5 percent of households with access to internet.
