Tourists spend nearly 6 billion in Turkey in second quarter

Statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) have shown that tourists in Turkey spent a total of USD 5.58 billion in Turkey in the second quarter of 2012, representing a 3.8 percent increase on the same period in 2011.

Out of the total income generated from tourism, the statistics also show that 82.1 percent was generated from foreign visitors coming to Turkey for a holiday, while the remaining percentage comes from Turks living abroad who come home for a visit.

Out of the 5.58 billion totals spending, a total of 1.28 billion was spent on package holidays to Turkey, while the rest was spent on individual visits. The total average spend per tourist was USD 598 – although when that is broken down, it shows that Turks living abroad spend nearly double that amount than foreign nationals coming to Turkey for a holiday. Turks abroad spending USD 1,095 on average while foreigners spend USD 544 on average.
