First eco-friendly boat produced in Istanbul

The first eco-friendly boat produced in Turkey has been unveiled in Istanbul by Istanbul Technical University (ITU).

Named ‘Marti’ for seagull, the hydrogen boat has been produced over a period of four years by students and funded by the university itself. Project coordinator, Dr. Filiz Karaosmanoglu said: “This boat is able to cruise for 10 hours while using only 5 kilograms of hydrogen, which is five times cheaper than gasoline. But our main aim is to motivate our society to use clean energy.”

Costing nearly 700,000 Turkish Liras to build, the boat is able to reach speeds of 13 kilometres per hour and the only waste is steam produced by the boat.

With Istanbul developing into a global technology centre, it might not be long before we see water front villas in Istanbul also boasting eco-friendly boats for property in Istanbul owners to enjoy.
