Turkish Prime Minister confirms new stance against terrorism

Turkish Prime Minister, Recep Tayyip Erdogan has come out to confirm the new stance that Turkey is to take against terrorism in the region.

Speaking at an iftar dinner for families of people killed in attacks by the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), Erdogan said: “I am saying it frankly. The cost of this will be heavy for them. Those who fail to distance themselves from the separatist terrorist organisation in this country are also abetting this crime. They are also doomed to pay the price for that.”

Erdogan said that the government will protect the Turkish people from terrorism without compromising on democracy and freedom. The Prime Minister said: “We are maintaining our patience because of our respect for Ramadan. But, everyone should know that the beginning of peace will be more different after this month of peace and solidarity.”

In the last two weeks the PKK have been responsible for more than 20 deaths of Turkish soldiers which has led to scrutiny on the government to step up their efforts against terrorism in Turkey.

The government has recently announced plans to deploy police officers to fight terrorism in selected areas. The government has stated that there will be new ideas and reforms in fighting terrorism to protect the people of Turkey.
