Izmir International Fair to take place in September

September 8 will see the 80th Izmir International Fair take place with more than 60 different countries represented by up to 250 foreign firms.

The number of people expected to attend the fair is to reach up to 1.5 million people in total.

Key to this year’s fair is the participation of Greece. For the first time in 18 years, Greece will appear at the fair to promote its eastern Aegean island of Lesbos. A director of the fair said: “This year, Greece requested to join the trade show for the first time since 1993. Greece will promote the island of Lesbos.”

The director went on to say that the recent tourist exchanges between Turkish coastal regions and Greek islands, coupled with the Greek ambition to make its islands more popular amongst tourists, has led to its participation in the fair. The director said: “Greece applied to participate so that it can promote Lesbos Island. We attribute this to the recent development of relations between the two countries.”

The theme for the fair this year is Environment and Environmental Technologies. At the end of the fair there will be an environmental summit scheduled for September 15 and September 17 with an aim to increase the public awareness on environmental issues.
