World War II plane found in sea off Turkish southern coast

A plane that is believed to be a World War II British bomber has been found at the bottom of the Mediterranean coast close to Antalya, Turkey.

The plane was found by local fishermen, who accompanied by Turkish scientists discovered the plane 35 metres below the surface of the water.

One of the scientists involved, Professor Mehmet Gokoglu said: “The fisherman showed us exactly where the plane was and we found the wreck on our first dive.” The scientist also noted that the fuselage of the plane is almost still entirely intact.

Gokoglu also said: “It was probably an aircraft of the British Royal Air Force.” The scientists found unexploded anti-aircraft shells in close proximity to the plane which had the words: British Manufacture on them.

Turkish officials have said that they have informed the Coast Guard and Naval Forces about the discovery.
