Turkish Minister calls for countries to unite to fight terror

Turkish EU Minister and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bağış has said that all allied countries should realise that international collaboration could get the best results in combating terrorism in the light of the recent terrorist attacks in Norway and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants who staged attacks in Turkey.

Bağış said in a statement: “We, as the government of Turkey, have been combating terrorism for nine years.” Bağış added that the attacks in Norway were not only a national attack on Norway but a global attack. He said that the attacks in Norway were similar attacks to the PKK militants and the experience Turkey has in fighting terrorism could lead to some international cooperation.

Turkey has recently been introducing new ways to counter terrorism and Bağış said in reflection of that: “We seek for a real, concrete and resolute cooperation against terrorism. When we are working to upgrade our democratic standards, we are also fighting against terrorism. Our security departments, special units and gendarme forces have been working very hard.
