A shopaholic’s guide to shopping in Istanbul

For a shopaholic moving to Turkey and leaving shopping hubs like Bond Street and Westfield behind can be a nightmare but fear not. When it comes to shopping, Istanbul certainly knows how to hold its own.

Remember Istanbul is the city where East meets West and a party centre that manages to be both lavishly ancient and vibrantly modern; it is hardly going to be without shops.

Istanbul offers shoppers enough luxury shops and brands to keep even the worst shopaholic content, below is a list of the best department stores in Istanbul. They offer shoppers every brand imaginable.

Beymen Department Store (Abdi Ipekçi Caddesi 23, 1 Nisantasi)

Think House of Frasier with a Turkish twist; find recognizable brands such as Prada, Louis Vuitton and Donna Karan, the store has something for every member of the family and the home. The store carries children’s clothes as well as a brand for young adults named Beymen Club.

Vakko Department Store (Abdi Ipekçi Caddesi 23, Nisantasi)
With multiple stores in Istanbul, Vakko is a shopaholic’s dream come true. Vakko stocks everything from high end fashion to a kitchen sink.

Harvey Nichols (Büyükdere Caddesi, No. 185 Kanyon Alisveris.Merkezi)

Harvey Nicholas needs no introduction to Brit Expats; it’s been in Istanbul since 2006. It carries everything you will find in Harvey Nicholas London.  With all the luxury it has to offer, Harvey Nicholas Istanbul is certainly a home away from home for a London shopaholic.

So there we have it, enough stores to keep homesickness at bay when moving to Istanbul. And if Istanbul property prices are something to go by, shopping in Istanbul might also be cheaper than the rest of Europe. And as a shopaholic will tell you, there’s nothing better than a bargain.
