Pet Owner Responsibilities in Turkey

If you have just moved to Turkey with your pet, there are a few things you should know as a pet owner. Aside from all the necessary documentation needed before you can take your pets to Turkey, here is a list of dos and don’ts all pet owners need to know.

  • Pet owners have to register their dogs with the municipality.
  • To prevent uncontrolled births, the animals have to be neutered.
  • Outside of private premises, dog owners must collect the faeces left by their dog so please Scoop the Poop!
  • Dog barking must be controlled so as not to disturb neighbours.
  • Dogs must be kept on a leash in public places at all times.
  • Dogs must not be allowed to roam, whether by day or night.
  • Every animal must be under veterinary control for health reasons.

    I read this article with interest.I have lived in Turkey for 18 months but have been visiting for over 9 years. I have never ever seen a Turkish person collect the Faeces of the dog they are walking and most run free! In fact twice i was by a Turkish local that my example of collecting my Dog’s Faeces should be made Law?
