Istanbul ready to bid for 2020 Olympics
When it comes to Olympic Games, it’s like try and try again in the case of Istanbul, that is if you believe IOC executive board member Richard Carrion.
If this is confirmed, it’ll be the fifth time since 2000 Istanbul has bid host the summer Olympics. An official statement is expected soon from Turkey’s National Olympic Committee.
The deadline for announcing bids is Sept. 1, 2011; Italy’s capital, Rome, has been officially confirmed as a candidate, with Madrid, which lost in the final round of voting to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Games, also a possible contender.
Turkey is positive that it has a good shot at hosting the Olympics, even though the IOC’s Evaluation Commission Report stated that Turkey’s overall status and finance for the 2008 bid contained uncertainties.
Will it be fifth time lucky for Turkey?
